They are just Basset Hounds - nothing different except longer, fuller, softer hair - and they are GORGEOUS!
How did we come about one? Just pure chance - in fact I did not even know what I had - we had a litter of 5 pups several years ago - 4 had normal, short hair but one little guy was "wavy" - I didn't think that much about it at the time - in fact I figured it was just puppy coat that would shed and be more "normal". I knew the sire and dam of the pups and I knew there was no "mix" in the bunch since we have a very professional breeding operation. The "wavy" pup looked exactly like all other pups except for his coat.....
A nice couple came to my home to purchase one of the girl pups in the litter but when she arrived and laid eyes on the "wavy" pup - she couldn't help but to buy them both. He was absolutely stunning after all...... Anyway, a couple of years later I get photos of "Beauregard" and "Dixie" and I was stunned.....what in the world - his hair was even longer and wavier and thicker and soft looking - what was up???? I didn't know what to think, but it was obvious we had long hair in our lines some where. Anyway, after some research it became clear that one of my dogs carried the recessive gene for "long hair". However, I figured that would be the end of it.
About 2 years later I had another mother with a litter of 6 - again 1 pup had "wavy" hair - we kept her to see how she would turn out and sure enough - another long hair! We named her Harmony's Reese Cup and her photos are below. We have not bred her yet - aren't even sure we are going to. But she is one of the most beautiful bassets I have ever laid eyes on and everyone that comes here to look at our bassets agree with us on that.
